Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is impacting people’s ability to create. As AI gets smarter, it is putting innovative careers at risk of being taken. It is not just careers that are affected; it is also taking away the ability to imagine.
In every decade, we have art that represents our history and how we have progressed in society. Art is intricate and represents humans’ innermost thoughts and emotions. Everywhere you look, there is art. It can be in food, engineering, or architecture. Creation is fundamental to advancement and is how connection is built.
A relatively well-known fashion designer and artist, Pluto Ernsberger, was asked how a future with AI will impact our creativity.
“A future where we lose the ability to create would lead to a lack of connection, losing the ability to advance,” said Ernsberger.

Ernsberger worked with brands like MM Milano and Michael Cinco before producing her own line called “PLUTO”, which was seen in multiple fashion shows. Before going to her school, she had never been in an art class. Moving to a new school for her sixth-grade year is how she discovered art, which inspired her to curate her own unique style. This shows how important discovering art is; AI takes that chance away. Designing something is a long, thorough process; leaving that up to AI takes the effort out of it.
AI has been massively undercutting the creative world since its birth. People who have no imagination and cannot create turn to this machine. This is pushing real artists out of their jobs; instead of commissioning them, they turn to a robot with no soul.
The film industry is not exempt from its usage. They normalize AI in scripts and scenes, which could lead to writers, editors, and even actors losing their jobs. Movies are one of the many forms of creativity that build a sense of connection. In the film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”, AI was used to make the younger character look more like her grown self.
Before advancements like AI, the film industry had to get more creative. One example of this would be in the kids’ show “Liv and Maddie”, actor Dove Cameron played both of the main character roles, so they had to film each scene twice. Switching between two different characters challenged her to change mindsets. This shows just how much AI is putting down actors’ ideas and creativity. Filmmakers had to get more creative with their special effects; with AI, that effort is lost.

AI is simply regurgitating whatever you feed into it. It is a remix of what you put into it; whereas artists must brainstorm and go through trial and error to come up with new creations. AI cannot recreate the soul and emotion an artist puts into their projects.
