There’s a new restaurant in town, and it smells like fresh sandwiches and famous sweet tea. McAlister’s Deli had its grand opening on July 8th at 1415 Boardman Road, and is welcoming new customers. They’re known for their sandwiches, sweet tea, and giant potatoes known as ‘spuds’, which are filled with tasty goodness.
From the moment the doors opened, Casey Patterson, a loyal customer, has shown continuous support through frequent visits and recommendations to friends and family.
“I was one of the very first people inside the restaurant. I was standing in line on opening day, and I’ve had a great experience since then,” said Patterson. When asked how McAlister’s is different, “It’s comparable to other places”, Patterson added, suggesting that while it meets expectations, it also brings something fresh to the table.
McAlister’s is a student-friendly restaurant with a countless number of student staff. Inside the deli, McAlister’s is working hard to create an enjoyable and welcoming atmosphere by fostering a positive work environment where staff can develop valuable skills while also building relationships with their peers. The restaurant prides itself on being a place where young employees feel supported, offering flexible hours and a team-oriented environment that helps them thrive.
Mackenzie Easterland, a McAlister’s employee, spends her time taking orders, waiting tables, and making sure her customers are happy.
“Some days are busy and some are slow–it’s really just on and off,” said Easterland, describing the current flow as the new restaurant finds its rhythm.

Rob Hooven, who began working at the deli just two days after its grand opening, plays a key role in creating an environment for customers.
“I make sure to greet customers, make sure they have a clean area, and that they have a good overall experience.” Hooven shared. His dedication reflects the deli’s commitment to not just serving food, but making every visit memorable.
With its diverse menu of sandwiches, soups, spuds, and salads, McAlister’s is catering to a wide range of tastes and flavors, promising something new to everyone. As customers continue to explore the growing number of options available, it’s exciting to see how this business will continue to contribute to the town’s culture and sense of togetherness. The recent opening marks a new era in the town’s scenery, one that will benefit locals with more choices and the opportunity for new dining experiences.
