As another marching band season kicks off, thoughts circulate surrounding the possibility that leading a band as big as the Northwest Marching Band would be stressful. Band Director Bryan Mangiavellano has numerous methods and people to assist him in thriving despite this stress.
Mangiavellano is not alone in leading the band. Student Teacher Benjamin Kessler is by his side. Kessler’s assistance proves to be vital in the classroom. Kessler helps by making copies of music and aiding Mangiavellano with student issues. His tasks are guaranteed to be part of the intricate machinations that make up the marching band’s excellent performances every time they showcase their skills.
With Kessler’s aid, Mangiavellano has more time to do things he loves, and it is guaranteed to be fruitful if he chooses to do so.
As a band director, having time set apart from work is crucial, and a necessary part of relief from work-related stress. Mangiavellano greatly acknowledges the importance of time.
“I deal with stress through reading, praying, and remembering that I teach amazing students,” said Mangiavellano. “My motivation is giving a great experience to my students.” However, there are still things he wants to do better. It could be due to numerous tasks, or due to wanting self-improvement. To alleviate whatever problems he is facing, he chooses what he prefers to be the best solution.
“I think I could delegate more people,” said Mangiavellano.
Mangiavellano, like any other person, has aspirations and improvements in mind. Trusting his students and creating more order in the classroom is one step toward creating a wondrous and proficient band.
Mangiavellano is continuing to chase his life goals, one of which is to continue growing and improving. Even with Mangiavellano’s stresses during the school year, he is dedicated and achieves personal and professional greatness through the Northwest band every year.
Alongside that, he has wishes and goals that he will achieve through the great deeds and performances of promising students. In his eyes, no matter the time, the place, or the people, he can guarantee that another accolade will be added to his legacy.
Events such as band exhibitions, football games, concerts, and many more gatherings will be an eternal memory of unforgettable moments and experiences. Creating these memorable occasions would not have been possible without Mangiavellano’s brilliant mind and his skilled hands.
