NeuraLink is a new advancement in the technological world. The company, founded in 2016 by Elon Musk, has made a coin-sized computer chip surgically implanted inside the brain to have the patient access the internet through their thoughts. 

   The first person to get Neuralink was Noland Arbaugh, a 30-year-old quadriplegic man. ABC News states that Arbaugh said that the device has given him the ability to have nearly full control over a computer with only his mind.

   Through NeuraLink, hopes to help people with injuries and make robotic limbs easier to use. NeuraLink’s ultimate goal is advancing humanity’s ability to achieve symbiosis with artificial intelligence.

   College and career readiness Teacher Randi Watts is very excited that it could help with disabilities and thinks it will give hope to people. 

 She believes it will take a long time to become mainstream since NeuraLink is still in its starting phases, but the fact that they have already completed surgery is a good sign.

   ¨It will open the doors for many disabled people,¨ said Watts

   According to Linkedin.com, NeuraLink will help more than just people with physical disabilities; it can also help with depression, schizophrenia, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease by altering their neurons with the chip itself. Time.com says NeuraLink could also help regulate a person’s mood and hormones and even the cognitive process of obesity.

   Despite all the upsides that it brings, NeuraLink could potentially be a hazardous surgery to partake in, as it could result in permanent brain damage and infection. There is also the risk of the implant failing and a person needing surgery to fix the implant. 

   Many people are also concerned about the cyber security risks of the implant, such as hackers and government tracking. There are also many concerns with the morality and ethics of NeuraLink, as it could be used to commit crimes digitally. There have also been worries that the company has been cruel to the animals they have tested NeuraLink on before the human trials. 

   The Reuters website states that the company has been under investigation due to the high amounts of animal fatalities. The company had been believed to be rushing the animal testing trials, causing a high amount of fatalities.
