Fortnite Original (OG) is an idea that was made by Epic Games. Their idea of creating this new game mode convinced them it would bring back millions of players in 2023. The statistics during the time pointed to them being right.
During October, before Epic Games released Fortnite OG to the public, they had approximately 1.1 million players every day according to Exploding Topics. After November 3rd, 2023, the number of people playing Fortnite daily skyrocketed to about 44 million as reported by Polygon, thus being Fortnite’s greatest number of players in one singular day.
This version of Fortnite OG ended on December 2nd, 2023. This version of Fortnite OG was a mix between new and old Fortnite. It included the old map and different locations from different seasons. Many features from the new Fortnite included the new movement system and items.
On December 6th, 2024, Fortnite OG came back with more original features than the last. It had many things such as the map from Chapter One Season One, all of the original locations from the beginning, all the weapons from that era, the classic user interface (UI), and graphics that the first Fortnite OG did not have.
During November, before Fortnite OG season one was released, Fortnite’s top player count at one moment was 14 million players. In December, after they released Fortnite OG, the highest number of players at once throughout the month was 4, almost 5 million.
A poll done from the Moxie Mountie Instagram account before the release of season 2 showed that 33% of people said they enjoyed Fortnite OG season one, while 67% said they did not enjoy playing.
Fortnite OG season two came out on January 31st, 2025. Due to another poll that was done from the Moxie Mountie Instagram page, 85% of people voted yes as in they enjoy Fortnite OG season 2 while 15% said no, they did not enjoy playing.
Fortnite OG has had many ups and downs. It is obvious to see that every time it has been released and or re-released it has caused an extreme spike in player count.
