2024, the hottest year on record, was filled with various worldwide issues, from severe wildfires in California to floods months back in Italy. Due to carbon emissions, the Earth’s temperature is at an all-time high, and our world is overheating past its tipping point.
“What is a Tipping Point?”
The Earth’s tipping point, or Threshold, is the limit the planet’s surface temperature can reach before the global environment changes. Coral dying, icebergs melting, and dangerous floods occurring are all results of the Earth heating up.
Carbon emissions and greenhouse gasses result from using fossil fuels like coal. The chemicals released go into the atmosphere and as a result, increase the global temperature.
This is what scientists like to call Climate Change. Science teacher Tobi Skaggs, with a degree in Environmental Studies and Sustainability, shares exactly what climate change is and highlights several issues.
“Is there anything we can do to stop this?”
According to a study done by Business Insider, clothing companies produce 10% of the global carbon emissions released each year. With fast fashion at an all-time high, many companies produce an excessive amount of clothing.
Even though there is no way to stop climate change, there are actions that can help reduce its impact. Cutting down on purchasing things like clothes or single-use plastics can significantly reduce our carbon footprint on the planet. Anything, even the little things, helps move toward a cleaner Earth.
