High school—a pivotal chapter in a student’s life where every moment counts. A whirlwind of grades, extracurricular activities, and unforgettable experiences that shape who we become. Each achievement, and each challenge faced, feels like a stepping stone paving the way to students’ futures.
Sophomore, Kayleigh Tucker has found multiple ways to express her love for more hands-on activities within the school and has worked hard to get to where she is now.
Tuckers’ love for engineering-based work began in elementary school, where she joined the First Lego League in the 4th grade, and during her time she eventually joined First Tech Challenge (FTC), which she now helps mentor during the robotics seasons.
“I was invited onto the First Robots Challenge (FRC) high school team and am still a part of it. I’ve been a builder every year by choice but this year I am a driver.,” said Tucker.
Tucker and her older brothers are all a part of Northwest Band, a family trait their mother had forced upon them in 6th grade, but despite it being something she originally did not want to do, Tucker fell in love with the band.
In the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program, students learn about earth science and physics, how to read blueprints, and earn their 10-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certification. After high school is finished, Tucker wishes to attend Michigan Tech and enter the engineering field, with STEM being the foundation for her career.
While Tucker works hard in what she loves, she is also a part of Northwest’s Dual Enrollment Program and has been since her Freshman year. With Tucker’s dream to apply to Michigan Tech, she takes constant AP classes whenever she has the opportunity and works hard in Dual Enrollment to earn an engineering certificate during the summer. Tucker takes E2020; classes during the summer, to free up time during the school year for other courses that she finds more important.
Tucker’s hard work and dedication fill her family and friends with pride. With a clear goal in mind, anyone can realize their dreams, and Tucker exemplifies the power of perseverance and the rewards of hard work.
