As the winter sports season wraps up, the stakes are high. Teams are facing high pressure as districts and finals are just around the corner. One of these sports facing the end-of-season pressure is wrestling.

This year, the team has been performing exemplary, with a 100 percent win rate. Wrestling is about as individual as a team sport gets. Each person goes head-to-head with a member from the opposing teams, and the points from each win are added to the team’s score.
One wrestler, Freshman, Ulysses Alcaraz, said, “I’ve won about half of my won meets, I have made progress. As a team, we have won all of the meets.” Alcaraz has been wrestling since the 6th grade for Northwest and has been improving ever since.

The crowd at wrestling meets is not as large as in other sports, but they still draw a crowd. When asked, 3 out of 10 people have gone to a meet. One of these people is a freshman, Isabelle Banks.

Banks spoke on the meet experience, “Wrestling was really cool to watch. It was my first meet, so it was impressive to see how it worked.” Banks shows a great amount of interest and also attended
When asked how he feels about the crowd and audience, Alcaraz said,” People catch on as they go its not super hard to understand- a decent amount of people come to meets.”
After attending the home meet on Wednesday, February 4th, it was concluded that Northwest certainly has spirit. People came out to watch and cheer on their friends and peers. The atmosphere was energetic, and school spirit was high.
The end of the season brought us to districts, which occurred on Saturday, February 7th, at Harper Creek. The team took 2nd place, qualifying for another round of districts, which will happen at home on Thursday, February 12th, at 5 p.m. This may conclude the season for the team, depending on the results.
Many Northwest sports are wrapping up for districts, and we can only show spirit and cheer them on as they see the end of their season.
