Gift shelf books celebrates reading month

March reading month became an annual celebration to honor the birthday of author Dr. Seuss. During the month of March, the schools throughout the district have a give and take book shelves called gift shelves.

The gift shelves hold donated books and students are able to take the books as they wish.

To pick up a book, it is not necessary to donate one. Books that are donated cannot be owned by the school or others.

On Wednesday, Mar. 23, the donated books will be collected from all schools and sorted by age level. From there, they will be given to local shelters and the cancer treatment center at Allegiance Health.

“If there aren’t any books left because students are reading them, that is okay,” said high school service coordinator Miss Marnie Hade. “The books would have been donated anyway.”

Books can be donated and picked up outside of Hade’s room (106).
