Marching Band has received 43 consecutive ones at Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) festival.

Being able to hold that record takes much time and effort. Band direct Bryan Mangiavellano takes MSBOA very serious and preps for the event early enough to perfect.

“I usually starting planning the show around Thanksgiving,” said Mangiavellano. “I look at the players that are coming back next year and see what would be best for them.”

The show would not be what it is without the musicians, as there are seniors, it changes the different groups every year.

“Each band is different,” said Mangiavellano. “This year’s group had a very different personality than last year’s, but I thought it would be the same due to the amount of veterans.”

The players spend a lot of time together to make their performance worthy of receiving ones. The band has had little conflict, which promotes the best music and an amazing show.

“There was very little drama, and because everyone got along really well, there was a steady progression,” said Mangiavellano. “There was much improvement over the year. It seemed as if the season went by quickly and usually Marching Band just drags out, but I think that is a good thing.”

With such an easygoing year, it leaves more room for memory making. Although there were complications with the construction, the band tried to make the best out of it.

“Watching the kids march around cars was pretty funny,” said Mangiavellano.

With every ending season, there are students that will not return because they have served and paid their dues and are moving on to graduation.

“I hope [the seniors] enjoyed their time in Marching Band,” said Mangiavellano. “They take the patience and discipline and apply that wherever the future takes them.”
